Jhansi Ki Rani on Indian
Jhansi Ki Rani on Indian TV channel ZEE TV recounts the story of Laxmibai aka Manubhai (1828 - 1858), queen of Jhansi whose fair rule is legendary, only overshadowed by her refusal to bow down to the British military attempting to invade her country. Jhansi Ki Rani became part of the Indian psyche by her heroic fight back at the British with a all-girl army. She escaped British occupation of Jhansi, and later died in the battle for Gwalior.
The first female unit of the Indian military was named after the heroic queen of Jhansi.
Zee Television channel in India is airing a TV series adapted from the biography of Rani Laxmibhai, Queen of Jhansi. Actress Ulka Gupta plays the role of the queen. Jhansi Ki Rani is broadcast at 8 PM Indian time, Tuesdays through Fridays.
